Job Summary

Under the general guidance of the UNODC Country Representative and or his designate and immediate supervision of the International and National Project Coordinators, the Database officer will be responsible to develop, design and analyze databases for illicit crop monitoring surveys and also coordinate the admin-finance issues of the project with concern sections.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist project coordinators in drafting of questionnaire for conducting various field surveys and translate into DARI/PASHTO local languages.
• Develop appropriate database for annual opium poppy surveys, yield survey, price monitoring, drug flow survey and other qualitative and quantitative surveys required by the project.
• Design and develop database applications for the purpose of data entry.
• Train data entry clerks.
• Train surveyors in data collection method and questionnaires.
• Supervise data entry process to ensure that the data is properly compiled and entered.
• Carry out data cleaning activity
• Review strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constrains of data collection based on field data provided.
• Assist in data analysis, output generations for periodical reports
• Coordinate the administrative and financial related works of the project and follow up with concern sections.
• Maintain and update records and status of progress of the project’s finance;
• Maintain inventory of project-related equipment;
• Preparation of inventory reports as required.
• Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of equipments materials including satellite images and report.
• Graphical representation of statistical data or results in map format using GIS.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned by the project coordinators.

Technological Awareness
• Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications; word processing, spreadsheets, Ms Access database, Ms PowerPoint, GIS and familiarity with Internet Applications.

Qualifications:

• Minimum High school, Bachelor degree desirable, but its not requirement.
• Diploma in computer applications.
• Certificate in specific field e.g. HR, finance, admin or IT/Database Management.

Work experience:

• At least five to seven years experience in database application developing, database designing and database coding (writing scripts or programming) in Access and other relevant fields. Basic knowledge in GIS (Geographic Information System) would be preferred.

Language:
• English (working language). Knowledge of Dari and Pashto required.


Computer skills
• Fully conversant with database programming (writing scripts). Ms Office is must.
