This current assignment is seeking to recruit National Technical Assistants for the Technical Working
Groups which will be established to support the Ministry of Education in the revision of the subject area
scope and sequence and the subject grade syllabi of the national general education curriculum for
Grades 1, 4, and 7.
Supervisory arrangements:
The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Director and Representative of the UNESCO
Office in Afghanistan and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, Capacity Development for
Education 2030 and the Chief of Education.
In practice, close functional coordination will be required with MoE leadership.
Conditions of Work
The Technical Assistants for the Technical Working Groups will be provided with office space and
equipment by UNESCO, including office stationaries, printing, photocopying, and communication
equipment as necessary.
The national technical assistant will perform the following duties:
Facilitate the organization and operation of Technical Working Groups established for the
revision of subject scope and sequence and subject-specific syllabi (Grades 1, 4 and 7) of
national general education curriculum;
Provide reliable and high quality translation support as required between English and national
languages. This will include materials required for the Technical Working Groups, and translation
of technical feedback provided in Dari/Pashto;
Provide other support as required to the international and national experts engaged to support
MoE’s curriculum reform work;
Liaise closely with Ministry of Education staff and relevant stakeholders at every stage of the
workflow.
Other duties may be assigned to him/her by UNESCO’s Chief of Education and the Program
Coordinator, CapED
The National Project Officer should be possessed of the following skills, experience and
abilities:
University degree, preferably in education or the social sciences.
At least 6 years of relevant work experience in education is preferred. Candidates with fewer
years of work experience may be considered.
Experience working successfully with the Government of Afghanistan.
Previous experience in the United Nations system is an advantage.
Excellent understanding of education systems and capacity development.
High-level drafting and communication capacity in English, Dari and Pashto.
Excellent organizational skills, including specific experience in the organization and facilitation of
working groups/consultations.
Specific subject content knowledge of one of the subject areas of the curriculum.
