Cable Technician is responsible for installing the network and telecom infrastructure to include the Copper, Fiber, and other telecommunications media and associated equipment. The Cable Technician is responsible for the installation of cabling systems and associated network infrastructure equipment, alarm systems if needed, and assists in the installation of telecommunication equipment. Working independently under general supervision, the Cable Technician coordinates and ensures proper operation of telephone, cable and alarm systems if needed.
• Working knowledge of LAN infrastructure design and implementation (preferably Cisco), knowledge of VLAN architecture, 802.x wireless standards, Category (CAT) 6 and fiber cable plant design, ability to read architectural drawings.
• Assists in planning designs for telecommunications infrastructure which includes outside plant cable and cable pathways. All infrastructure designs must comply with standards.
• Performs physical installation of inter and intra building copper, fiber and coax cable on an as needed basis.
• Provides hands-on coordination of installation and maintenance of PBX (Private Branch Exchange) and related voice mail and data station equipment.
• Provides hands-on maintenance of telephone services.
• Performs quality inspections as part of work performed.
Maintains personal and professional knowledge of National Building Codes and industry standards.
• Closely adheres to different cabling standards in order to ensure proper installation of cable and adherence to the terms of company warranty.
• At least 3 to 5 plus years of experience
• Knowledge of CISCO VoIP, PABX, AVAYA Systems preferred
• LAN, WAN and VSAT knowledge and experience
• Degree in telecommunications, electronics, or industrial technology, or equivalent education, training and/or directly related experience and two years of progressively responsible telecommunications experience
• Microsoft MCSE and CISCO CCNA certified or any other certification is preferred
• Knowledge and experience in Networking Infrastructure / deployments
• Familiarity with materials, methods, and techniques used in the completion of equipment service assignments.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals and related documentation for equipment/ systems that interconnect with or interface to installed equipment base.
• Ability to physically install and configure equipment, connections, wiring and cables, as required working from layout or plans.
• Travel to regional and provincial offices as required
• Good spoken and written Pashto, Dari, and English.
• Good and accurate Dari, Pashto and English typing competency is preferred
