Job Summary

Kandahar OFC Technician is responsible for new installation, preventative maintenance of our existing OFC network and troubleshooting. 

Duties & Responsibilities

 Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of AWCC OFC Network 24/7 

 Coordinate fiber activities with other AWCC departments from the field 

 Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.

 Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards

 Assist Construction/Engineering departments in accepting and turning up the fiber network. 

 Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels. 

 Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment. 

 Install demarcation enclosures and other telecom equipment. 

 Must be well versed in modern fiber splicing techniques. 

 Must have experience with the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct etc.

 Ability to work under minimal supervision. And apply technical expertise to evaluate problems and implementing the best solutions. 

 Work a variety of schedules including normal duty and on-call duty. Schedule will include extended travel and overnight stays. 

 Maintaining project and safety documentation 

 Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault 

 Excellent communications skills.

 Must be skilled in fiber optic terminations 

Job Requirements

 Diploma IT / Technical College Degree with minimum 4 years work experience in the field OFC network 

 Must have minimum 4 years working experience in OFC 

 Willing to travel to the remote part of the country.

 Familiarity with various test equipment; OFC power meters, 

 Multi meter, OFC cable testers and multi-purpose hand-held equipment.

 Ability to read and understand network design, specifications, and drawings.

 Good communication skills and the ability to operate in a team

 Environment
