Part of the wider development programme of the Aga Khan Development Network in Afghanistan, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture has since 2002 been engaged in a range of initiatives in Kabul, Heart, Balkh and Badakhshan aimed at the conservation and revitalization of historic neighbourhoods, the improvement of living conditions and the development of professional and crafts skills.

Job Summary:

Working in a team of national and international staff under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor, the Photographer/Film Maker will assist the Program Department in meeting AKTC objectives by ensuring professional, timely and efficient photography and filming activities. S/he will be responsible to perform the following specific duties:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the financial and administrative policies and procedures of AKTC are respected and followed.
  • Prepare broadcast quality films for AKTC projects using portable digital cameras and/or drone cameras as required, including filming on sites, transfer of materials and back-ups, sorting and cataloguing of footage, film and sound editing, captioning and post-production works.
  • Prepare print-quality still images using portable digital cameras as required, including photography in the field, transfer and backup of images, filing/sorting/tracking of all files, and work on photo enhancement using specialist software.
  • Fully proficient on a range of video / photography editing softwares.
  • Prepare, track and maintain digital files and backups of all video/photographic material.
  • Prepare storyboards, scripts, and other planning materials for discussions.
  • Prepare detailed schedules and work plans for all activities.
  • Attend editorial meetings.
  • Travel for work outside Kabul required.
  • Provide technical support and train relevant staff in developing their documentation skills.
  • Maintain and clean office film/photography equipment according to established standards.
  • Undertake other relevant tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • University graduate with professional training in photography, videography or photo journalism from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as photo journalist, photographer, videographer and/or film producer with recognized entities. Experience with TV is an asset.
  • Demonstrable experience and qualification in documenting still images (printed portfolio required)
  • Able to prepare accurate captions in Metadata of photos.
  • Outstanding skills in editing photos and films (samples of films prepared required)
  • Physically able to carry heavy equipment.
  • Dedicated and able to work under pressure, long hours, and under difficult circumstances.
  • Expertise in operating a variety of still/film camera models.
  • Able to work in multicultural environment.
