Political Assistant FSN-8

Duties & Responsibilities

Expand political contacts among national, and/or provincial-level Afghan government official, civil society groups, media organizations, and other influential figures. Respond to tasking on domestic and/or regional political issues. Provide oral and written updates and analysis to the political section and the front office, as necessary, on key developments in regional, national, and/or local politics. Monitory and report on major issues covered by local and regional politics and assist political officers in establishing new relationships. Set up appointments for officers and the Front Office and interpret, as necessary. Maintain a comprehensive contact database. Additional duties as required.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. EDUCATION: Must have at least three years of studies satisfactorily completed in a relevant area, such as political science, law, international Relations, journalism, economics, foreign languages, or other social sciences is required. 2. EXPERIENCE: Must have at least four years direct experience in political analysis, press analysis, legislative analysis, compiling biographical information on government officials and stakeholders, or developing detailed reports regarding political or economic developments in Afghanistan. Strong regional experience or ties to western Afghanistan is required.
3. LANGUAGE: Level 4 (fluent) English is required. Level 4 (fluent) Dari is required. Level 3 (Good working knowledge) Pashto is required.
4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent written and oral communication required for regular briefings and written reports on all aspects of parliament. Develop and maintain professional relationships with parliamentarians and government officials at all levels. Use multiple media and online sources for research. Interpret and translate fluidly between English and Dari. Use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and SharePoint software to report and share information.
