Global Rights, Multi Location
For over one and a half years, Global Rights Afghanistan has partnered with a local organization called Justice for All (JFA) to provide free legal advice to Family Court clients, especially for women and other marginalized and vulnerable groups. The project, known as the Legal Advice Bureau (LAB), involves informing clients of administrative legal procedures and providing pro bono legal defense services. After countless positive responses from the LAB project in Kabul, we are expanding this program to serve our countrymen in other provinces.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Program Officer and Manager of Programs, and in close coordination with Global Rights Afghanistan staff in Kabul, the Project Coordinator is responsible for overall management of the Legal Advice Bureau (LAB) project in Herat, including project implementation, oversight, and reporting.
• Oversee and guide the implementation of the LAB project in accordance with Global Rights’ plans, administrative procedures, and other applicable rules and regulations.
• Increase the capacity of our local partner organizations and help them complete their tasks according to applicable legislative instruments.
• Send project reports to Senior Program Officer as assigned.
• Develop efficient management systems and routines to ensure good project results.
• Outreach to and cooperate with other local organizations working in the same field to create a sense of solidarity rather than competition among these groups.
• Promote and initiate meetings between the local organizations and government bodies at the provincial level to share project information and encourage cooperation.
• Ensure timely reporting by all units in the project and that necessary data for monthly and quarterly reports is available, compiled, and reported to the Senior Program Officer.
• Ensure the active involvement of the local organizations’ staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the project.
• Ensure that important and relevant information about the project is disseminated to local communities and organizations.
• Organize legal awareness outreach programs and trainings, making extra effort to promote female participation, and report back to the Senior Program Officer in a timely manner.
• Actively evaluate the security situation at provincial and district levels, implement security precautions and regulations, and ensure strong adherence by staff.
• Assist other projects and staff as needs arise.
• University Graduate with an LLB degree.
• At least 2 years’ experience in legal field (most preferably aware of family law in Afghanistan).
• Sound knowledge of project administration, budgeting, and report writing.
• Very good command in English, Dari and Pashto (spoken and written).
• Strong supervisory, monitoring, leadership, analytical and trouble shooting skills.
• Good computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Internet.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to deal with people of different walks of life with varied political/socio-economic and educational background.
• Ready to work, live, and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment.
• Familiar with local Afghan customs and traditions.
