About UNHCR Jalalabad

Job Summary

The recruitment of two (2) Project/Field Monitors will enable UNHCR Sub-Office (SO) Jalalabad to better:
- monitor the implementation of UNHCR-funded projects, liaise with NGO partners and other humanitarian agencies at field level;
- identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing community-based projects and incorporate lessons learnt in the design and implementation of future projects, with focus on the needs and concerns of various returnee and IDP vulnerable groups, in particular women and girls.

The PFMs will work with UNHCR Program Unit, will be based in Jalalabad, and will travel daily to various villages and returnee/IDP settlements in Eastern Region.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of UNHCR Program staff, the PFMs will:
• Visit returnee villages and returnee/IDP settlements where UNHCR-funded activities are conducted, and report on the humanitarian assistance projects and activities.
• Discuss with beneficiaries of UNHCR assistance and report to UNHCR on any impact and results achieved.
• Assist the UNHCR staff in preparing analytical reports and project monitoring reports.
• Conduct household visits to individual returnee families based on needs and vulnerability.
• Identify and assess the needs and concerns of women/girls beneficiaries, with special focus on those in such marginalized categories as female-headed household, adolescents, women and girls with disabilities; and provide recommendations to UNHCR Program Unit.
• Provide support to SO Jalalabad in developing and implementing small-scale/ pilot projects to address the specific needs of vulnerable households.
• Assist with filing and other office support tasks.

Job Requirements

• Completed secondary education.
• Minimum two years of relevant work experience. Experience in community work is an asset.
• Excellent abilities to communicate in Pashto and Dari.
• Very good ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; team spirit; and gender sensitivity.
