About Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC)

Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is an independent, nonprofit organization that supports press freedom in Afghanistan and works towards the advancement of journalist safety and rights so that they can report in a safe and fearless environment. AJSC is based in Kabul and maintains a presence in every province of Afghanistan. AJSC has a board of advisors composed of well-known media workers and civil society activists. AJSC’s executive section has official representatives in eight regions of the country and an unofficial focal point in the remaining 26 provinces. This has enabled AJSC to establish representation throughout the country and provide media workers with necessary help when needed. AJSC provides a host of services for journalists, advocates for press freedom and offers emergency assistance for journalists in need. Monitoring, verifying, documenting and reporting threats and violence against journalists is also a key mandate of AJSC. A holistic approach to enhancing press freedom and safety of journalists has been key to AJSC success.

Job Summary

Overall purpose:

The purpose of this role is to coordinate effective operation and activities of AJSC within at the provincial level. This role is also to ensure that all provincial focal points have work plans and make efforts for continuous coordination with relevant media workers, organizations and stakeholders at provincial level. Receive relevant weekly and monthly reports from the provincial focal points. 

The incumbent is responsible to maintain close contact with all other regional and provincial focal points and maintain an effective and safe network of communication for transmission of data and information at a timely manner. 


The incumbent is also expected to demonstrate best data and tasks management skills and play important role in improving overall work progress and achievements of the organization

Duties & Responsibilities

 Provide timely support and advisories to all other regional and provincial focal points related to the conduct of activities in accordance to the work plan. 

 Handle and assist the Database, M&E and Training Coordinator in getting timely data and information related to the number of cases, facilitating the conduct of trainings and collection of data from the regions at an accurate and timely manner. 

 In coordination with the program team, inform all regional and provincial focal points on the implementation of the work plan and receive timely reports of activities for further submission to the program and finance department. 

 Conduct some annual visits of the regions and get sufficient acquaintance with the situations and facts on the ground and properly advise program staff during conduct of monitoring and training activities. 

 Coordinate and manage weekly or monthly meeting with all regional and provincial focal points to discuss their emerging issues, problem and take appropriate actions accordingly. 

 Update and inform all regional and provincial focal points on any changes to the work plan or any new project activities at a timely manner. 

 In consultation with the relevant units, develop baselines and establish indicators based on program planned activities at the provincial level.

 Develop simple and easy-to-follow reporting format to collect project data and train all focal points about the monitoring and performance data collection and reporting. 

 Schedule regular monitoring of all process activities during the program/project implementation.

 Provide detailed information for the management team and stakeholders on the progress of ongoing project activities.

 Create and maintain lessons learned repository to be available and used for any future planning and implementation of programs to avoid similar mistakes and situations. 

 Prepare weekly and monthly reports on basis based on the monitoring records and progress reports.

 Conduct final provincial evaluation of the project to ensure that planned and targeted objectives are met and all project related documents are safeguarded and archived both in hard and electronic formats. 

 Contribute in introducing new tools and techniques that can facilitate monitoring of the project and programs implementation in the country for the purpose of brining efficiency and effectiveness in the overall organization development goals. 

Additional responsibilities

 Assist the organization in drafting of reports and other administrative works that occasionally may happen during short deadlines.

 Any other tasks deemed necessary and appropriate by the immediate supervisor as per relevant regulations and scope of AJSC.

Job Requirements

 Shall have at least a bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution in the relevant field;

 Shall have at least 3 years’ relevant work experience; 

 Shall have ability to provide advice in developing AJSC’s functions and priorities;

 Shall be able to plan, organize, lead and monitor projects and activities;

 Shall be fluent in communicating in English, Dari and Pashto;

 Shall be proficient in computer applications.
