Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Doctors Without Borders) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, and natural or man-made disasters to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.
MAIN PURPOSE
Perform counseling and/or education sessions following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve the psychosocial condition of the patients
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic, and administrative needs for patients
· Actively promote the availability of counseling services and carry out individual or group counseling, psychological first aid, basic psycho-educational sessions, for patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope
· Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available
· Participate in the development of the materials needed for counseling activities
· Fill incorrectly all the documents required (patient files etc.) and compiles monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department, encode data in the files of the patients including the on-going monitoring of the beneficiaries status, compile weekly reports reflecting the counseling activities, ensure that the patient data is kept confidential
· Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities
· Take an active part in training, supervisions and support the activity managers when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues
· Promote case discussions within the medical team
· Discuss difficulties and problems encountered in the counseling sessions with the line manager
· Maintain at all times a respectful attitude towards the population, patients, and colleagues
· Observe confidentiality to all information obtained from patients and attendants during sessions
Give regular feedback to the line manager and report directly any issue or incident
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
Education
· High school diploma (12th class) essential
· Psychosocial/ Mental Health/ Social Work/ Psychology certification essential
· University degree desirable
Experience
· With at least 1-year experience in a similar position essential
· MSF experience desirable
Languages
· Dari/Pashtu: oral and written essential
· English: oral and written essential
Working hours: Full Time 40 hours a week: 5 days a week
Salary: will be paid according to MSF salary grid
