Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is a grassroots civil society organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and New York. In particular, WAW works to help Afghan women and girls exercise their rights to pursue their individual potential to self-determination, and to representation in all areas of life—political, social, cultural, and economic. WAW relentlessly advocates for women’s rights and challenges the norms that underpin gender-based violence to influence attitudes and bring about change.
Psychosocial Counsellor under the direct supervision of Project Manager in the province is primarily responsible for providing psychosocial counselling to the project beneficiaries and targeted communities, case management, referrals, and follow-up PSS awareness-raising, liaising with government and other key stakeholders, and conducting training.
• Receive cases in need of psychosocial supports from IDPs and other PoCs.
• To fill all relevant forms related to clients such as the Case intake form authorization letter and consent form.
• To be tactful and have strong interpersonal skills and communication.
• At least 02 years’ experience of work as a clinical psychosocial counselor.
• Holding a psychosocial counselor diploma or psychology degree.
Technical Tasks:
• Keeping all records confidential.
• To facilitate IDPs shock affected individual and communities.
• To work closely with IDPs and the local community to detect shock-affected individuals and refer them for further assistance.
• To conduct a regular follow-up of the IDPs and local community.
• To conduct regular M&E visits to the community to identify the IDPs and work with the community.
• To ensure confidentiality including all client records are safe and secure.
• Try best to protect IDPs and the local community from further harm.
• To assist IDPs in designing a Safety Plan for life-threatening situations
• Report on weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis and ad hoc to immediate supervisor.
• Attend all relevant meetings requested by the supervisor relevant to the project goals.
• Maintaining a close relationship with other partner organizations working within the districts and provinces.
• At least completed one-year psychosocial counseling training and preferences will be given to those who had graduated from psychology faculty.
• Experience using MS Windows, MS Office packages (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
• Additional experience may substitute for some education.
