Counterpart International STEP, Multi Location
The Translator will be responsible to translate STEP program documents/materials and publication development process. As part of the program team, the post-holder should be willing and able to perform a wide range of tasks independently, including program support activities. The post-holder will coordinate, liaise and report to the heads of program departments on each of their projects and related material. The translator will also be responsible to assist Media and Public Outreach Departments with research and development of materials.
1. Ensure high quality translations of all STEP, correspondence, texts, training materials and publications into Dari in a timely manner;
2. Ensure adequate and timely editing of material translated by other staff members or outsourced venders
3. Compile Dari words and terminologies along with its English meanings that can be used as reference in translations
4. Provides research support and coordinate with the relevant program staff and writers to develop brochures, manuals, flyers, press releases, success stories and other training and media material for Counterpart STEP.
5. Ensures that all materials are according to local culture, accurate in content, and comply with Counterpart STEP objectives.
6. Edits the developed material to ensure that these documents are grammatically correct. Also researches on the information given in the material and ensures about the accuracy and quality of developed materials.
7. Coordinates the hiring, recruitment and selection of the writers and translators for developing required materials.
8. Monitoring the translation and publishing resources and keeping records up to date.
9. Provide supplementary proofreading (English/Dari) and layout services.
10. Proofreads and edits the Dari-English-Dari translated materials.
11. Liaise with various vendors and government agencies for purposes of publications.
12. Liaising with partner organizations, stakeholders and research entities in Afghanistan for research.
• Master/ Bachelor degree in literature or any other relevant field.
• At least 3 years working experience with International NGOs in fields of Translation and Material development.
• Past experience in elections programs and voter education projects is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Software ‘Word, Excel, and Access’
• Fluency in two main local languages, Pashto and Dari (writing, speaking and comprehension).
• Proficiency in English.
