Job Summary

Chemonics International, a leading international development consulting firm, seeks an renewable energy specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded energy sector improvement program. The objective of the program is to improve access to reliable and affordable clean energy, improve regulations and governance in the energy sector, demonstrate the use of innovative technologies and busines models, and assist with the transition to a low-carbon development trajectory.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Renewable Energy Specialist may be asked to carry out activities such as: providing technology-specific technical assistance to developing country policy-makers seeking to promote a particular renewable energy technology; evaluating the economics, economic impacts, and technical
appropriateness of alternative renewable energy technologies; providing technical assistance to multilateral development banks and local host-country financial institutions on the rationale for including
renewable energy in future loans and programs; assessing the potential for the development of particular renewable energy markets, including conducting analyses of the resulting data and information to draw conclusions about potential future markets for renewable energy technologies and developing contacts with appropriate representatives of the host-country energy sector, including energy suppliers, energy customers, regulators, policymakers, and technology developers; providing technical assistance to build the
capacity of local host-country NGOs seeking to promote renewable energy technologies; advising on the development of appropriate credit and finance schemes to increase access and sustainability of clean energy projects; providing business development and advisory services to host-country renewable energy enterprises; and assessing the policy treatment of renewable energy technologies as compared to conventional energy technologies.

Job Requirements

Advanced degree in engineering, economics, or energy/environmental policy.
Prior international donor experience on similar projects
At least 5 years of applicable technical and professional experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Fluency in English (written and spoken)
