Provide senior-level support to a national network of BDS providers, who will in turn provide support to prospective borrowers from the Agricultural Development Fund.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide advice for transfer of best practices and business planning to BDS providers. Provide technical assistance and training to service providers that will support farmers, farmer groups, and rural entrepreneurs in developing bankable proposals and seeking financing for value chain investments (storage facilities, packing and sorting, cold storage, transportation equipment, etc.). HASEL envisions that BDS providers will, in effect, act as loan originators â€“ identifying prospective borrowers and supporting those borrowers to generating actionable loan requests (loan requests upon which a credit decision can be made). BDS Specialist will be responsible for ensuring engagement of BDS providers in value chain activities, working with firms to identify business needs and develop training to respond to those needs so that they can become stronger partners in HASEL implementation and, ultimately, serve the needs of agricultural enterprises throughout Afghanistan.
At least 10 years of professional experience working with and developing local business services providers in Afghanistan (or similar environment);
Experience providing training and tools (for example, cash flow projection models, basic accounting systems) and in monitoring performance;
Demonstrated experience working with senior level host-country counterparts;
Graduate degree in relevant field preferred;
Prior experience working on USAID or other donor funded programs preferred;
Strong English language skills preferred.
