5 yearsâ€™ experience in design and construction of bridges and other structures of road projects. Experience of design of bridges on pile / well foundation and experience of construction of bridges involving RCC/Pre stressed concrete, design standards, technical specifications, establishing QA/QC procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties of the Consultant shall include assisting the Team Leader, Bridge Specialist (International) and Resident Engineer in the following areas, but not be limited to:
Design review. The design review includes but not limited to the following:
(i) establish the schedule, methods and procedures for the review of detailed engineering design and construction drawings of the bridges, culverts and other structures for the project,
(ii) consider available data on topography (topographic maps, stereoscopic aerial photography), storm duration, rainfall statistics, top soil characteristics, vegetation cover etc. so as to assess the catchments areas and hydraulic parameters for all existing and proposed drainage provisions.
(iii) obtain information on high flood level (HFL), low water levels (LWL), discharge velocity etc. from available past records, local inquiries and visible signs, if any, on the structural components and embankments to check the deign of the bridges and structures.
(iv) ensure that the assessment of the load carrying capacity or rating of existing bridges have been carried out to ensure they are safe for the design axle load;
(v) review the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) and Alignment Plan showing the salient features of the bridges and structures proposed to be constructed / reconstructed along the road sections, such as alignment, overall length, span arrangement, cross section, deck level, founding level, type of bridge components (superstructure, substructure, foundations, bearings, expansion joint, return walls etc.)
(vi) ensure that the design finalized is based upon hydraulic and geo-technical studies, cost effectiveness and ease of construction and design of protective works, slope stabilization measures, erosion control measures, land slide control/protection measures snow drift control/snow clearance measures, avalanche protection measures, if required, have been included;
(vii) review the submitted documents in accordance with the design standards, criteria and conceptual design provided in the Contract. The Consultant will complete the review within 21 days after submission of the documents to enable finalization and commencement of construction of bridges, culvert to ensure completion of the project in time.
(viii) ensure that the Technical Specifications in the Bid Documents and the Interim Road Standards of MPW have been duly taken into account in preparation of the design documents provided by MPW.
(ix) provide periodic status reports of the design and review activities as measured against the approved schedule, identify any problems and difficulties encountered and propose solutions.
(i) Review and approval of the detail construction schedule of bridges, culverts in consultation with Team Leader;
(ii) Establish schedule, methods and procedures for review of the construction of bridges, culverts and other structures by the contractor; Review and approve the mix deign of concrete of RCC structures submitted by the contractor, and ensure it meet the requirement of the contract specifications;
(iii) Review geotechnical investigation requirements of the bridges and other structures in the project.
(iv) Review the design of shuttering and scaffolding for its safety during construction of bridges by contractor;
(v) Prepare a suitable organisation structure for quality control in consultation with Quality engineer expert;
(vi) Preparation of quality control management manual for supervision of construction works;
(vii) Assist Resident Engineer with the certification of the due quantity and quality of all works, based on cross-checking of on-site approvals by the Field assistant Resident Engineers;
Highest Finished Education: Civil Engineering Degree with post graduation in structural engineering.
