About Afghanistan Justice Sector Support Program (JSSP):
The Afghanistan Justice Sector Support Program (JSSP) is a multi-pronged effort to develop and strengthen the capacity of the Afghan criminal justice sector institutions and justice professionals. JSSP is funded by the United States Department of State/Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). PAE is INL’s prime contractor responsible for implementing JSSP. Through capacity building, technical advice and direct assistance, JSSP helps the justice institutions and the justice professionals perform their respective roles in delivering fair and effective justice services to the citizens of Afghanistan. In addition to working with justice institutions, JSSP participates in a variety of projects designed to promote access to a fair and effective justice system.
Job Summary:
Training Advisor with GCHR Section
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform all duties assigned by supervising international advisor and team lead
Ensure all Gender deliverables are implemented in a timely manner
Assist MOWA to conduct ETC and gender mainstreaming meetings
Assist MOWA to conduct gender representative working group meetings
Assist GoA counterparts to develop training policies, strategies and plans
Plan and conduct initial assessments of training and mentoring within MOWA
Assist MOWA trainers to develop lesson plans, conduct cross-sectional trainings, seminar and conferences
Help build GoA capacity by establishing mentoring relationships with key Afghan officials involved gender justice
Develop and maintain expertise in training and mentoring within MOWA
Maintain current knowledge of National Action Plan for the Women of Afghanistan (NAPWA), LEVAW, Ministerial Strategies, Ministerial Policies, INL Mission in Rule of Law Objectives and other significant documents related to gender
Rapidly respond to requests for information from INL, PAE, and U.S. Embassy
Other duties as directed.
Job Requirement:
Bachelor in Law required; Master in Law or related field desirable
At least 2 years of experience working in gender justice and women’s rights issues
Understanding of Afghan law and the situation of Afghan women required
Must be a strong advocate for gender reform and advancement of the rights of women
Must demonstrate aptitude and willingness to work with female victims; and demonstrate understanding of how to communicate with victims; how to interview them; how to provide active listening; and how to issue effective support
Good written and verbal communication skills
Good computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Experience giving presentations
Experience conduction legal training and mentoring staff
Must be willing and able to travel to all provinces for program activities
Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiply tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated professional maturity and good interpersonal skills
Ability to develop and manage an effective and motivated team
Previous experience working with an international organization.
Knowledge of best international practices for training and mentoring
Knowledge of Afghan justice sector and Ministry of Women’s Affairs
Knowledge of capacity building within Afghan government.
