About Afghanistan`s Peace and Reintegration Programme :
UNDP Afghanistan is supporting the Government of Afghanistan to implement the Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Programme. This programme is supported by the international community and the United Nations to bring long term security and stability to Afghanistan. To implement this programme, a Peace and Reintegration (P&R) Trust Fund will be established to support various reintegration efforts, including training programmes, development activities and technical support.
The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the unit. Accurate oral and written translation task and activities enhances APRP capability in its translation efforts. The translator has to be able to independently translate documents/discussions between high ranking GoA officials (e.g. Ministers) and members of the IC (e.g. DSRSG). The work environment is very sensitive and the translator has to be able to work independently and under stress in order to support the transition of the APRP/DIAG process.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Summary of Key Functions:
â€¢ Official interpretation services for all mentors, at meetings / workshops;
â€¢ Translation of Operations materials and its revision;
â€¢ Translation and interpretation of discussions, lectures and presentations
1. Ensures the interpretation focusing on the achievement of following results:
â€¢ Provides English/Dari and Pashto interpretation for all mentors.
â€¢ Official interpretations (English, Pashto and Dari) at meetings/workshops.
â€¢ Provide consecutive or simultaneous official interpretation into the target language in a variety of settings
2. Ensures the written translations focusing on the achievement of following results:
â€¢ Translate written material such as correspondence, reports, legal documents, technical specifications and textbooks from English to Dari/Pashto and vice versa, maintaining the content, context and style of the original material
â€¢ Translation of materials/documents according to established rules pertaining to factors, such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics;
â€¢ Ensure that all translations are completed accurately and on schedule
â€¢ Identify the terminology used in a field of activity
â€¢ Conduct terminological research on a given subject or in response to inquiries for the preparation of glossaries, terminology banks, technological files, dictionaries, lexicons and resource centers, and add to terminological databases
â€¢ Manage, update and circulate linguistic information collected from terminological databases
3. Ensures translation and interpretation of discussions, lectures and presentations
focusing on the achievement of following results:
â€¢ Provide consecutive or simultaneous official interpretation from English to Dari/Pashto and vice versa, either simultaneously (as the speaker speaks), consecutively (after the speaker speaks) or whispered (speaking in a low whisper to one or two persons as the speaker is talking)
â€¢ Proofreads and revision of translations for accuracy
â€¢ Offer consultations on linguistic issues as requested by the various sections
â€¢ Gives special attention to translated brochures and booklets until a final printout is obtained.

â€¢ Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Completion of Secondary school is essential; University degree in Languages or a related field an asset;
English/Dari/Pashto translation and interpretation skills;
Excellent computer skills, ability to type in Dari, Pashto and English.good knowledge of Ms. Office;
5-7 years of professional experience in translation and interpretation;Working experience as translator/interpreter in an International organization would be an advantage;
Technical experience for simultaneous translations;
Good interpersonal skills and willingness to work with people from different nationalities and cultures;
An excellent command of the English language is essential;
Fluency in Dari and Pashto is required.
