PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide a wide range of expedient support services for World Vision International/Afghanistan in transportation and maintenance of vehicles. To ensure that World Vision International/Afghanistan’s fleet of vehicles and equipment are mechanically maintained in a manner that will provide reliable transportation and for World Vision goods, assets and staff. To assist maintain inventory of spare parts and assist in procurement of replacements in a timely manner. To assist provide reports on fleet and maintenance of vehicle and ensure all errands are carried out in a timely manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate with chief police to provide security for convey from Heart to CC and back to Heart.
• Ensure that all commodities transported by WV fleet are duly recorded in the WV transportation records books.
• Assist to coordinate the hiring of vehicles [cars and trucks] for programs by following the WV procedures.
• Prepare the transport payments accordingly and submit to CTS for review.
• Prepare the Loss claims against the third party.
• Monitor commodity convoys accordingly and update security as well as management.
• Coordinate warehouse activities (receiving and issuance of goods).
Government Relations - Local
• Assist in maintaining relations with Afghanistan government and private offices, Embassies and NGOs.
• Have regular update with Transport Department.
REQUIREMENTS
• Graduated certificate from Technical Institute in Mechanic and/or driving.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in driving and maintenance of vehicles.
• Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 5 years.
• Ability to drive in very difficult terrain (roads)
• Knowledge of car mechanics (preferable with a certificate in car maintenance)
• Able to analyze security situation in advance and work close with security officer on security matters.
• Good net working skills with Afghan Army and police, specially in Ghor province.
• Thorough knowledge of the road systems in the country and area of work.
• Able to manage communicating in English.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Lotus Notes will be an advantage.
• Ability to maintain a high standard of personal appearance
• Ability to work in a cross-cultural and multi-religious environment with multi-national staff.
• Ability to prioritize work in relation to need and urgency.
• A working knowledge of fax machine, photocopier and telephone will be an advantage.
• Must maintain a high standard of personal conduct and appearance.
