Job Summary:

This one-month contract (which may be split into two 2-week contracts) will involve initial work by long-distance to advise Pajhwok administration on equipment and software purchases as well as an overall strategy for the service. Once in Kabul, the consultant will work closely with new Afghan staff in Kabul to learn the equipment and improve their shooting and editing skills. The consultant will also work with Afghan trainers to devise and carry out a training program for regional reporters on the use of compact video cameras, in particular "guerilla" documentary style in reporting with video. Finally, the consultant will act as liaison with international news outlets and other clients, to assist in marketing the video service, possibly by long-distance after leaving Kabul.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Initial work by long-distance to advise Pajhwok administration on equipment and software purchases as well as an overall strategy for the service.
2. To work closely with new Afghan staff in Kabul to learn the equipment and improve their shooting and editing skills.
3. To work with Afghan trainers to devise and carry out a training program for regional reporters on the use of compact video cameras, in particular "guerilla" documentary style in reporting with video.
4. To act as liaison with international news outlets and other clients, to assist in marketing the video service, possibly by long-distance after leaving Kabul.
5. Other related duties as required.

Job Requirement:

1. Five or more years of video reporting experience, preferably some with major media outlets or agencies
2. Experience training and mentoring journalists in challenging multicultural environments
3. Experience working with novice multimedia journalists preferred
4. Experience working in Afghanistan or elsewhere in the region strongly preferred
5. Well-established network of professional contacts
